B&Q Open Garden Soho

End Client: B&Q

Production Company: CSM Live

B&Q wanted to showcase their Summer 2017 garden product collection. The idea was to take over part of Soho Square in central London, enclose a 30 metre x 30 metre area with their fence panels and build various room sets and a presentation area to show off the range. Originally B&Q was to provide all the product and deliver it, but at the last minute they decided we had to collect everything ourselves from their stores!

It was a vast job, we only had three weeks from the go ahead - and that included Easter bank Holiday weekend. We built the basic structure off site and then transported it to site. On Good Friday morning we had three 7.5 ton trucks outside various B&Q superstores waiting for them to open so that we could grab all the decking they had.

One of the biggest challenges was building the fence panel wall around the site, because the garden is built above a Nuclear bunker. There is no depth to the soil so we couldn’t use regular fence posts to support the panels. We had to weld metal plates to the post bases to keep the fence upright. With a day and a half to put everything together, we were glad of good weather! In the end it all went very well and was very well received by the public and the clients.
